My 14 year old earns about $500 a month doing illustrations and Flash for my clients. Although this is a great resource for me, and great cash flow for him, he's somehow got the idea that he "doesn't need high school."

Stay in school. Go to college. Make it happen through your art.

You can. There is a big need for young talent nowadays.

School is plus, which will speed up your career. Will give you confidence. You will get to know people. Too many benefits to list them. :)

College or continued education is also essential for becoming a well-rounded individual. The parties, political protests, and sexual experimentation that go along with college are just icing on the cake.

And yes, you can do work at 16. I started a web dev business when I was 12. I made about $200, which financed my setup at that time (a Power Mac 8500 and a PowerBook 1400). Later, I got a Power Book G3, and I bought a hard disk for that with money from the web dev. Good times. :-)

... and I am still in school but making money doing websites/logos/business cards etc. Don't limit yourself to layout sales though... you've got lots of competition. It's better to find some person who has no idea how to use the internet but needs a website and offer your services to them.

Good luck! Tell your parents it can be done but YOU have to be professional and reliable.

So does any one know of any sites that has a sort of auction or posting for freelance work where people looking for talented artists go there and post a project, get bids and view portfolios from potential freelancers and then assign projects?
