I plan to mostly use it for self promo items and client mock-ups.

Use quality paper and any inkjet will produce pretty great results.
I still swear by HP printers, in terms of reliability they've been faultless, I'm on my third now, none of the previous ones have stopped working yet, they are all with family members, unlike the Canon and Epson printers which are in the big electronic graveyard in the sky.
I'm actually about to upgrade again, from my current Officejet 6310, which is great, but I'm printing a lot of photographs on glossy paper at the moment so it's massively expensive for the inks. I'll be buying an Officejet Pro L7680 which is better for volume printing.
Lots of designers will swear by Epson, but I've had nothing but trouble with them at home.

I've found Epson printers either way awesome or way dismal... with little middle ground. I am still running an old Epson 1270 in my home office. It has a lot of miles on it, but still seems to be rock solid. I've had a couple smaller ones in the past that served me well, too. But we've had a couple other models here at work that were in constant need of attention, and we never got any consistency out of them. I think we left the Epson 3000 out on the railroad tracks one evening.
Now... it's anybody's guess which Epsons are good and which are lame.
Never had issues with HP. Epsons--some snags while ripping files. Brother printer met the same fate as the Espon above. Still a mystery how it ended up on the tracks...
ttfn!
