how do i save an edited photo as jpeg and not photoshop jpeg?
cucukahuna44 (5 points) | Sat, 2007-10-20 07:51when i edit a photo in jpeg. sometimes it just saves it as a jpeg and sometimes as a photoshop jpeg. one allows you to view in preview and the other has to open photoshop everytime i view it. i dont use layers to edit and do the same thing for the most part when editing. is there a special way to save as a regular jpeg?

You need to change the 'Open With' option for .jpg files.
Locate one of the .jpg files locked to Photoshop, highlight it and 'Get Information'. Near the bottom find the 'Open With' area and change from 'Photoshop (default)' to 'Preview'. Then click 'Change All'.
This should set 'Preview' as the default application for opening all .jpg files moving forward. Of course you can always drag them back over Photoshop to edit.
Exactly. And remember, don't label them .jpeg. I see this on the web sometimes; it's bad practice. :)

Use the "Save for Web..." function (under the File menu) rather than "Save" or Save As..." This allows you much more control over your JPEG settings, and doesn't save any of the Photoshop-specific previews with the file (resulting in a slightly smaller file).
If you do use layers, this is also much faster than flattening the layers, then knocking down the resolution, then going to "Save As..." Save for Web does it all in one fell swoop... plus you don't have to remember to convert CMYK files to RGB (if that's an issue in your workflow).
