How do they do that?
print_guy (17 points) | Wed, 2006-06-07 03:07Hi everyone,
First of all, great site Ivan. Lots of cool ideas, and lots of very talented people adding new stuff all the time.
I've seen some tutorials where people record their screen and sometimes add audio over the top to show step by step how to do what they do. I work for a printing company and end up going over the same things again and again with different customers. I would like to find out what program I can use to record some of my own tutorials for our customers (and of course, creativebits users).
Thanks in advance for any advice, and thanks for all the great ideas on the site.

hey print_guy....good question....these videos are definitely the best way to create tutorials. Although I have never created these, I know enough to tell you that the official name for such recordings is "screencasting." And I am also happy to tell you that if you have OS X Tiger you can get some free screencasting software called IShowU. I haven't tried it out yet because I don't have Tiger yet, but if anyone has tried it, I would be happy to hear how it does. Get it at http://shinywhitebox.com/home/home.html ...if you are on a PC just do a search on google for "screencasting" and you should find something. I believe there is a free one for the PC called Replay Screencasting.
Happy screencasting.... Joel
p.s. oops...I lied...they must have starting charging for it just recently...it is now $20 if you want to remove the overlaid text on the movies...but you can take it for a spin for free and see how you like it before you fork out the cash.
Hi print_guy
Snapz Pro X is the best one I've used. Bit pricey at $69 but incredibly versatile. I got version 1 in a bundle some time age & find it very useful for not only screencasts, but screenshots that you can save to many formats on the fly. It's now gone to vesion 2

hello everyone.
I wanna share my own expirience in making a video tutorial. I got a program, called ScreenVidShot, linked here http://www.geovid.com/Screen_VidShot/ , so there are some useful features like: capturing a video, Image, serial of images, save this all to different formats, including dvd. It has a very nice interface and with all its easy interfacing its a very powerful and high quality tool.
It cost 49.95 USD. but has a trial version, which is full functional and has no time limitation, so you could test as long as you want with all existing features.
hope Im helpful
good luck
I appreciate all of your help. Not I've got three options to check out, and I finally know what to call it...
Sweet!
