How do you get inspired in your cubicle?

Like many others, I don't work for a fancy advertising agency with an open office environment. Instead, its me and one other guy working in-house for a large wholesaler. Complete with cubicles, white walls and carpeted floor and everything.

So I'm wondering, how do you all make your office more inspirational? I'm thinking maybe posters, or some books. Or something else completely!

Good question. I can't help you with the surrounding visual issue--when I get into my work I could be working in a cardboard box for all I care. For me, it's all audio. I have to have music when I'm designing. If I don't have it the results aren't pretty. Are you allowed music in your workplace?

Yep, I keep my earbuds in about 99% of the time :) Good point though!

I like to have inspirational design sites close at hand like logopond.com and Smashing Magazine. Ads of the World helps too. :)

Well, I think that's what you're trying to do. I work in a cube-ville, too - but it's like little half-height cubicles, so you can see everyone's heads just barely from your own desk.

No music allowed - OOOOH the PAIN! Seriously it was awful. I have to ask my boss every now and then if I'm working on a particularly creatively challenging design to allow me some leeway and let me at least put one iPod bud in one ear. Usually she's good about it. In any case, it took FOREVER for me to get used to being creative without the aide of music, though.

I've got my desk/cube decorated with just fun things that I know I like. I'm a big gecko fan, so i have gecko art all over my desk - pictures, figures, 3D hanging art - I've definitely got a theme going on.

My assistant loves to make toys out of office objects, so that's what's all over his desk. He's made a slingshot out of some weird coil stretchy stuff (kinda like a phone cord). Me made a paper sword... lots of paper airplanes.

Just do what makes you happy. For me, nice decoration keeps me in a good place. For others, a chaotic mess might be theirs.

that didn't at least allow music in headphones. even if i don't listen closely, i really do get stressed if it's not playing quietly in the background.

when i work late and crank on deadline, i crank the music to match.
