Like how long would it take for a Business Journal to complete?
Jelly (43 pencils) | Thu, 2009-08-20 13:57Just wanna ask how long would it take for a Business Journal to complete. (How many hours?) Journal for the chamber of commerce. And like how much do you charge for the design?
Thanks

with almost no information, we can give you almost no advice. well, actually, no advice.
agree
ah hehe. about 35 pages colored. Like how long would it take to complete?
About 2 working days in average.
2 days to design and lay out a 35 page book seems pretty optimistic if you ask me. I would guess closer to 4 or more. But that all depends on how much design work is necessary. If it's mostly text, then 2 days seems reasonable.
Oh, by the way, you can't have a 35 page book. You can have 32 or 36, but not 35. Any photo retouching needed? Do you have to enter the text yourself, or will the text be provided in a text file? Are there ads in the book? If so, are you designing them or are they being provided? If they're provided, what format will they be in?
Lots of questions need to be answered in order to give an accurate recommendation on how long it will take, and what you might want to charge.

Thank you guys for all your reply. Actually, we will be talking about it this week and want to get an idea in advance. The text I think will be provided in a file because they have a researcher. I'll design them. It is a business magazine. Ads included. Ah yea, thats 36 pages not 35 sorry.
- Probably photo retouching needed, text will be provided, and ads included?
What if I less Photo retouching not needed in it?
I accept per project payment but I charge $14/ hr for photo retouching
What if in it I have to type the text myself? theres additional fee of how much?
I don't like typing very long I think its a work of a typist. hehe..
JimD Im sorry what you mean by closer to 4 is that a days? Can be 4 days?
It pretty much depends on what's needed, how long is a piece of string?

Another $14 guy? Are you the same guy selling logos for $14? How do you folks live? Are you eating cat food and living in a shoebox or something? Geeeeeez...
To answer your question, you better have them flesh out that "ads included" part because that is generally the bulk hours for monthly publications (which is my business). Pdf files have made it a lot easier the last few years, but if they want you to design and produce 20 ads to go with those 36 pages - you're probably looking at 4-5 business days. Generally that is how most small monthlies work anyway - one week for production (start Mon, finish Fri).
No not the same person. lol. I offer per project payment. I just give $14 per hour just for photo retouching and additional revision.
Thank you
I've heard of "low-balling" a price... but $14 an hour??? You can make that clearing tables at a restaurant. Up the price to at least $40 per hour for crying out loud!

The customer who will pay $40 for work isn't the same customer who will pay $14.
the customer who will only pay $14/hr isn't much of a customer.
That's also the customer that is going to drive you insane with corrections because they don't have a clue about what they want.
