How much are 3 inches worth? (Cinema Displays)
larusson (713 pencils) | Sun, 2005-06-12 21:17Up front I'd like to make it clear that no matter what anyone says, I'm buying an Apple display. Yes, I know there are some Dell's out there cheaper and just as good and all that... I only say this, for when I start talking about the ACD's someone always brings this up. ;)
K. My dilema. I'm finally buying a display to use with my 17"PB and I'm not really sure if I should go with the 20" or 23". There is obviously quite a price difference, but I'm willing to overlook that for something I'd love that more much. Also, am I getting anyting besides 3 more inches for my money?
And while I'm at it... if anyone has something to say about the displays, say it now, of forever hold youre peace.

it feels way large than the 19" I had.
The ratio of the Cinema Displays are more rectangular
I guess that's why.
If I had the cash I would have bought the 23".
Maybe later on I 'll get antoher 20" and use them together.
This display is KILLER BRAH!! GO GET ITTTTT!

I don't have one but I remember there being a problem with either the 20" or 23" where they had wierd bluish, redish, yellowish hues to them... I don't remember exactly but it was only one of the displays that had the problem........ maybe someone else knows......

I bought mine at CompUsa and told that dude that I had the cash and I'd buy it only if he let me open the box, hook it up and check it for dead pixels...
which he did :)
If you can Larusson check it for dead pixels with an empty desktop, hiding the dock and keep on switching the background (solid of course) color.
If you buy it online and you get less then 9 dead pixels (I think 9) then you are f..ked!

I am not sure what online store you are talking about, but if you buy through apple, and you have apple care, and you have 4 or more pixels dead, they will repair it.

I was in the same dilemma. I bought the 20" Cinema from Apple.ca and it arrived with zero dead pixels. The 23" is not just a larger size, but brings with it HD. If you feel HD will be an asset then it may be worth considering. If not, you can almost get two 20" ACD's for the price of one 23". Reading Apple forums, many people are staying away from the 23" - lots of problems, although don't hold me to it.

Check for dead pixels with different background colors. Not every dead pixel is visible with any color.
Are you gonna use the PB and the new display together? If so, go for the 20".
If you gonna close the lid for the PB, go for the 23".
