How Much Time Does Apple Have?

Dave Nagel's pessimistic take on the PPC to Intel switch. He basically says that if Apple sticks to the 2 year transtion plan than Apple is irreversibly dead by 2007. I completely disagree. Surely it's going to be difficult, but I wouldn't mind buying a PPC Mac in the next two years if needed one, because a computer only lasts about 4 years anyway before it becomes obsolete and PPC will be supported for the next 3-4 years anyway.

One thing for sure... most people i know, that have or had the intention to buy a new mac (i thinking too!)... now see to the win/pc market.. becuse the uncertain future of the apple.... apple just can't disappear.. just like that... never.... but many people is take advantage of the rumors and tryin to sell more win/pc boxes...

At the moment, what i think we're all experiencing along with the reviews and different opinions from different people in the industry, Is the Calm before the storm.

its obvious that people are going to speculate about whats going to happen. People are starting to panic and think unrealistically about Apple and the way they think. give it 3 months - 3 months... See what Apple release. I have a funny little feeling that at least half of the people whose said "apples gonna die and microsoft are gonna win" or whatever , are gonna change their minds. Apple are at the leading edge with their products (ok so linux has some technologies that we would like os x to have had earlier or at least have), and I really do not see how they would have spent 5 years and then realised this upon us - if they thought that in 2 years apple will crumble. Nah - Apple are about 4/5 years ahead of anything we think they are, at least!

my point to the negative thinkers out there = do not under estimate Apple, because you can never trust apple to be grey and do boring stuff :D

So many people share the opinion that Apple is a dying company and would have been dead already were it not for the iPod. I don't think this could be farther than the truth.

Even if Apple hadn't come out with the iPod, business would have continued as usual, unphased by the MP3 player market explosion. Apple would have continued to exist, small as it may be, without any endangerment of going out of business. Quality companies like Apple with a strong, loyal fanbase just don't disappear off the map.

Apple switched to Intel processors because they knew it was in their best interest. If Apple thought it would be a bad business move possibly leading to bankruptcy, it would not have been done! Apple knew what they were doing when they announced this switch. Though it may be a bumpy next few years, it will not spell the end of Apple.

All the naysayers don't mean anything! Look at everybody who was doubtful and quick to criticize Apple's pricing decisions on their iPods. They couldn't have been proven more wrong about how many Apple could sell so this is just another example of people being all too eager to jump on the "Apple-doesn't-know-what-they're-doing" bandwagon, wanting to be among the "I-told-you-so's" should things not work out.

Suckers.

True. And not mant of those iPod critiques publicly admitted their failure to predict the correct market reaction.
