how to measure square m2 of an organic shape in illustrator / photoshop
terina (59 points) | Wed, 2008-03-19 11:21Hello! I hope someone can help me?! I have a client that draws organics shapes, shapes that is not square in illustrator / photoshop. (She designs carpets). I have tried to work out the size etc for her in photoshop, but photoshop still measures a rectangular size, even if you just select the "circle" for instance. In Illustrator it seemed to work out the right size, but I am not sure. Is there anyone that can maybe tell me how to do this. I'm just a normal graphic / web designer & have no clue! (I think/know that you can do this in AutoCad, but she does not have AutoCad).
Thanks!

Break the irregular shape into measureable parts (squares, triangles, etc.) and add those numbers together for the total. If the shape is rough and non geometric, the best way to do it is good old calculus; or fill the object with water. :)
Area of a Circle = 2 x pi (22/7 rough approximate or 3.1415, more exact) x radius
