how would you approach this?
aitchmal0ne (220 pencils) | Thu, 2010-10-07 17:07i'm tasked with creating an ad for an "urgent care" clinic. i know the name, the address and have read a BRIEF description of their services. but otherwise i have nothing. no imagery (will have to use stock) and no direction. just curious what creative "process" someone else would go thru to get this done and have it be a successful ad and a good design.

Do the best you can, but that applies in any situation.
It might be worth it to make a quick 'safe' ad first and then try to get a creative one. If it might fail, you always have the safe ad to go to and it could take some pressure of you.

First off - find out what "urgent care" really means... is it ER treatment, a hospice type thing, cancer center... what? Then address it from the Hallmark angle for your "safe" version as Jack suggested. Let's say it's care for old folks - use a photo of an RN holding an old lady's hand and looking at her lovingly - like she really cares for grandma. Headline, text, logo, BAM. Soft, warm, fuzzy. Chances are that's what they want.
And get used to this kind of project - that's how a lot of jobs are presented. I get requests all the time for "restaurant equipment sales" or other businesses about which I have zero knowledge. No photos, no text, nothing. Heck, sometimes I have to practically beat their address and phone number out of them. That's our business.
