This is cool, but I would go in with darker tones, for like the insides fo the ears, under the chin to really make it pop out. Right now it's kind of flat.

i feel what both of you are saying. thanks for the pointers. i liked how it came out, but i knew there was plenty more i could do to improve it. thanks for the feedback and keep it coming!
Good start. Floating heads bother me, so I'd add a collar and a little shirt or something to anchor it. The other thing is the shadow behind it. That's the standard copied layer filled with black then blurred which doesn't work on objects that are supposed to be three dimensional. I'd lose it altogether.
