Ideas For A Logo Design
Jimmy M. (6 pencils) | Fri, 2005-04-29 18:44First off, I've seen some people's work on logo's here and they are outstanding. I was hoping that maybe somebody could help me with some ideas for a logo. I work at a factory which makes cutlery. We have the original logo which my boss wishes to keep, but I believe he would like to incorporate a symbol also. Our current logo is the lettering with a mark under it. I have thought about this for quite a while and hope that one of you could get my brain moving on some ideas. The brand name is widely recognized with our current logo, but as I said before they want a symbol also. Thanks for any help you can give me!!

First of all maybe I misunderstood your post, but you're not asking for free work, right? I don't want to solve the problem for you. I'd like to help you solve it yourself. I can give you ideas, but it should be a discussion, rather than I tell you what you should do.
Second, although you gave quite a lot of information, still this is not enough to do a logo that represents a company. You need to tell us what the company stands for. Who is the target? What is the brand perception now and what are you hoping for in the future. What is the problem with the current logo? Where are you going to use the new one most prominently? Such things...
The idea for the logo should come from the brand. One needs to understand the brand before one can make a logo that represents it.
The name of the company, and a web site would be helpful too!

I don't want anyone to do the work for me, I just need some direction. The brand of knives is Ginsu. I'm sure some of you have seen the T.V. commercials. In the company's words they are "quality knives which never need sharpening at an affordable price." When they asked me for a symbol, my mind went blank. How do you symbolize a company that makes knives? My boss won't give me any direction that he wants to take, so he left that to me. At first I thought maybe some kind of Shield, maybe the whole heritage bit, but that seemed a little dull. Most of everything I have came up with has looked dull. So if you have any kind of idea that I could build on, I would greatly appreciate it. Like I said above, please don't think that I want anyone to tell me what to do, or do it for me. I just would like some ideas to get me going. Perhaps even your thoughts what a GINSU knife means in your opinion.
