If you can't afford a 20" Cinema Display...

I recently purchased a Dell UltraSharp 2005FPW Widescreen display for $390 shipped (to AZ). Apple's Cinema display shares the same LG.Philips panel as the Dell UltraSharp 2005FPW. Aside from the Apple's awesome design and firewire input, the Dell sports a faster response time, 3 year warranty, vga dvi s-video and composite in, Picture in Picture, Piture by Picture, height adjustable and pivot stand...

I have both my PC and Mac hooked up to it and switch between them. I use a 20" ACD at work and I have to say the review below is right on. If you catch Dell at the right time, they have many coupons you can stack to get it as cheap as I did.

The great review comparing the Dell to Apple can be found here:

I was told that the only 24 bit monitors are the Apple ones(?)

I just got a 20" Apple display myself, after looking at the Samsung I decided
better go with the "fruit" :).

I like the 3 yrs warranty tho!!

I beleive you're right about the Samsung not being 24 bit pompo, but since the Dell and Apple displays use the same LG Phillips Screen (#LM201W01) they both indeed have 24 bit color depth. Check it out!

I was in the exact same boat as you until a few weeks ago. Dell's Canadian pricing was only $50 less then Apple's screen, and the coupons were no good. For the small a price difference, I definitely opted for Apple. Also, the Apple and the Dell have the same response time. Dell's figures are a bit overblown. Its the same panel, just different backlight, thus response time does not differ.

Thats pretty trippy. I have 2 of the 20" wide ultra sharp screens at work, and one 20" Apple at home, both are less than a month old, and I could swear the Apple is nicer. My guess now is that its OSX that makes everything look better.

I'll have to plug my powerbook in at work and see if the display quality is the same. I know one thing for sure, OSX looks much much better on the apple screen than Windows does on the Dell.
