Illustrator- How do I save a page to be sent via email?
spiritedwildfire (6 pencils) | Fri, 2007-04-27 19:11I have to send pdf or jpeg files of tearsheets to clients.
I create the tearsheets in Illustrator so that they can be posted on our website and printed, etc.
Currently when I try to save these pages as a jpg or gif the border dissapears around my page and all of my text is sent to the edge of the page creating a visually displeasing image.. how do i prevent this?
what is the most effective way to send small files of images via email to clients that cannot view illustrator files?

Lets say you have a A4 page. When you say save as PDF the pdf takes the size of the bounds of the page. Under the setting in 'Save as PDF' dialog there is a preset for 'Smallest File Size' use this to make your emailable file.
Another way is to drop a WHITE box BEHIND the items the size of the page and then export to jpg. Works for me.
OR open the illustrator file in photoshop and then increase the canvas size as desired and save as jpg.
hope this helps

Illustrator has so many ways to export good quality (client's JPEG) includes:
1- Save for web
File>>>> Save for Web and then you can adjust the size in appropriate to what you are looking for from Image size box on the mid right side of the window.
2. Export as TIFF
File>>>> Export as tiff and then open in Photoshop and save as JPEG and just to know is that in Photoshop you can control the size of the file as if you want it very light to send via email no matter how big is the file by reducing the quality pressure (Note: Exporting JPEG directly from Export Command doesn't give you a good quality shot and it will be pixelated) .
3. How to export one piece of work among many in the same file???
here is another smart way to export one piece of work in between so many other on the same work space which is by:
a. Create a box all around the piece you want to Jpeg it and then go to Object menu right at the top and then click on Crop Area and click on Make. by that time the box which you created will disappear and only the trim marks will be shown then repeat the way number 1.
Hope it helps
Thanks for the tips.. I changed the design style of my catalog pages, and re saved a PDF.. ended up being 280 k. I'm still using Illustrator CS, and I only have Acrobat Reader installed on my computer.
As you can see I'm still fairly new at using the program.
I appreciate all the tips.
