Free from annoyance: Quick Object Locking

I seem to be finding a lot of useful(for my style of working anyway) little options for AI lately...

This one is a quick object lock. A speedhack if you are setting up a template with a lot of objects, you would probably know how annoying it is to break your flow of work by having to search and lock layers you are selecting/creating. Well here is the solution: CMD+2

Poof, insta locked layer.

I use this all the time. Just for the record: unlock is Apple(Cmd)-Alt-2.

it locks the object, not the entire layer.

and 'alt' is also known as 'option' ~ which unlocks all objects (since you can't have a locked object selected, of course)

while we're at it: cmd + 3 / cmd + option + 3 hide object & show all the hidden objects respectively.

oh and in Ill CS and later, you can map keyboard shortcuts to most menu & palette commands, so I map "Select > Same Fill & Stroke" to f7. I end up using that command more than most, to make sure I have all the objects on they're correct plates.

Also handy is Command-3, which hides the object. And the context menu that allows you to pick the object above, below, etc.
