Illustrator Arc

All i want to do is attach text to a circle, the arc in effects distorts, i need my text as a perfect circle

This may be too simple or obvious, making a perfectly round circle (holding down the shift key while using the circle in the tool palette) and then hold down when you click on the Text tool palette and you'll see text on a path tool.

I apologize if this is something you already knew, but I honestly can't think of any other way to do this. Please enlighten me if somebody knows another way.
