Illustrator cs2 question
sidesey (280 pencils) | Sun, 2006-05-21 17:35Hi all,
I am designing a logo for a client and have created some shapes and text for it. All fonts are converted to outline too.
When I try to save as a pdf or any other format i get the following message.
The Document Raster Effects resolution is 72 dpi or less.
Surely this can't be the case as illustrator uses vector graphics?
I think I remember that in previous versions of illustrator this didn't matter, but my client has confirmed that it doesn't print very well, the resolution seems too low.
So my question is what can I do about it? Any help would be gratefully received.
Cheers
Andy

Document Raster Effects resolution applies to things such as drop shadows, blurs and such applied within Illustrator. To print them out in high-res, you'll have open the file, go to Effects>Document Raster Effects Settings… and choose high.
It could also depend on what they're using to print the file. If they're using an old version of Word or something, it may not work right.

I found that document raster effects setting and have changed it and all seems Ok, but the thing is it is a logo and there are no drop shadows or anything which is strange, it even needs that setting changed when i try and save a blank file... very strange but sorted now, thanks for that bteverybody and thanks for the link Mordy much appreciated, I was going mad there for a while!
The "warning" that appears when you save the file is just that -- a warning -- that lets you know what the Document Raster Effects Setting is set to. You can still save the file with it set to 72dpi. In fact, if your file contains nothing from the Effect menu (no drop shadows, feathers, etc.) you can just ignore the warning altogether.

That is what i thought Mordy, I guess it is a problem the clients end. Good to get confirmation though. Cheers.
...literally I think, it used to be so much easier when you just cut and paste stuff and used a PMT and all that... as long as the client was happy first time round! just read the link Mordy, I don't know why Adobe had to complicate it so much, but I am now in the know. Great article thanks again!
