Illustrator CS4 swathces
jozefk (251 pencils) | Wed, 2009-09-30 11:09If I draw an object > go to Style: (Graphic Style Panel) > Open graphic style library (let's say Artistic Effects) > And I apply it to the object I draw > Basic colors from swathces are gone.
How to place them back again?
I know I can Open swatch library > Default swatches > Basic CMYK (for example)
But the colors will not go back to swatches, they will appear in a separate window.
I don't know if I'm missing something but I don't see the way for reseting the swatches window back to default or how to place the default colors back?
Thanks for any reply!

I Can't simulate your problem.
I presume that you created a new document without the standard swatches.
if i create a new document swatches are there. now read again the above post or you want me to copy/paste it here? :)

I tried again to simulate your prob, but I can't recreate it.
To the best of my knowledge, I can only advice you to reset your illustrator.
You do this by holding down the alt/ctrl and shift keys when you launch Illustrator.
This trashes your preferences.
See if the same problem occurs after the reset.
good luck
Delaying with reply a bit. Too busy in the office :)
This is not a problem, this is something "normal" for Illustrator. I just don't see the option to get the swatches back to default in that same document. If I create a new document everything is OK but it's annoying to go for opening defaullt swatches in new, separate window while I use to have them always in the same, swatches window.
I tried everything and didn't find the solution yet. By the way, the same settings are valid even after restarting Illustrator and opening the same document where I did that explained in the first post. If I save that kind of document, settings are saved as well :)

OK,
I see what you wan't to say now.
When a document has no swatches in it, it is impossible tot get the original swatches back.
Swatches, Graphic styles, Brushes, patterns and so on are related to the file.
This is done to keep the file as light as possible.
All that kind of information is kept with the document and makes it bigger.
If you throw them away or if they are gone for some reason, you can only work with the libraries in a seperate window.
Each time you click a color that color will be added to the swatches panel.
I hope this explains it.

I know that what you are saying. But my question was how to get the default colors back to the swatches window? And you say it's impossible. Thanks for letting me know that. i don't need to keep seraching for solution anymore :)
But I still think it would be a good option to have the swatches reset back to default.
To adding them again one by one sucks :)

you can select them in the separate window alltogether with the shift key and drag them to the swatches
Great! That was what I was looking for :)
I also try alt/ctrl+shift while launching Illustrator and it works as well. Thanks.
Now I got something different:
If I apply some style to the object, I'm gettng a small triangle in left up corner, before Fill color, and it says: Top-most fill/stroke is not active. Click here to make it active.
Didn't notice this earlier.

The triangle problem.
Some of the styles just came for earlier versions of illustrator and there is the problem.
I noticed that the warning is there when you apply a style thatb has a gradient in it or when there was an effect was applied that is only available in RGB.
So there lies the problem.
The gradient tools have changed a lot, and the other thng is hat youre document color settings may be in CMYK.
So in stead of changing their styles, the correct way for CS4, adobe just added this warning.
By clicking the triangle, everything is set the right way.
Kind a weird
