Illustrator CS Stroke Question
pechos (120 pencils) | Fri, 2006-01-13 01:37Hey,
I am a bit of a n00b to Illustrator and I have question I imagine is pretty simple to answer? I Not sure if the answer is in the help files, as there is something wrong with the ones on my box.
So I am wondering how you can specify the stroke attribute to be excecuted on the Outside of your work path, rather than the middle? So for example, I just want to know how to make my stroke thinken entirely on the outside of my flat little sphere. If memory serves me right, Illustrator defaults to centering on the path.
Thanks in advance, hope someone can help!
David

I could be wrong but I don't believe this is possible.
If it is a simple shape you could just copy the shape and hit cmd-F to paste a duplicate in front of the one you have. Then remove the stroke on the sphere in front and group the 2 together so they move and scale together.
This is a new feature in CS2.
well I guess now I have a reason to upgrade
Both Illustrator and InDesign CS2 allow the user to assign the Stroke to the Center, Outside, or Inside of the path. Very handy.

In Illy CS you could apply the stroke and then go into the Appearance Panel and pull the Stroke below the fill. It's still techincally centered on the stroke but now the fill is infront of it so it looks like it is an outer stroke.
Now with the money you saved on upgrading you could at least buy me a Pepsi :)
Oh yeah, nice tip, I've wanted to do this before! I don't often go into the Appearance Pallet, it definitely has its uses.
Just to clarify... this is how you would do it in CS/CS2? CS2 didn't add some sort of "stroke: outside" option, right (if so I'd be surprised I didn't see it)?
Nice Call man. Should you ever come to Denver, I will buy you a Pepsi. I

In CS2 you only can change the center of a stroke in closed paths
