Illustrator Issue, any advice?
smcake (10 pencils) | Thu, 2010-01-28 16:11Hi, I'm quite a novice--this is my first time using Illustrator, and I really honestly don't know what I'm doing. But I've managed to figure some things out.
Anyway, at some point, several objects (text and lines) have seemed to change so that I can no longer select them. Everything is on one layer. I don't remember doing anything weird (but I may have).
Any idea what I can do/what happened?

What could have happened is that the items are locked, click 'alt'-'cmd'-'2' to unlock
Also check your layers pallette and see if layers are locked, you will see a little padlock icon next to the layer if it is, click the lock icon to unlock.
Thats all I can think of.
hope that helps

First try Command-A to see if they are selectable. If not, they are probably either locked, been turned into guides or on another layer.
A couple more options are:
1) you could be editing a specific object (do other elements appear faded?) if so double click anywhere else in the window.
2) You may be editing an object's mask, open the transparency window and check whether there is a highlight around the mask thumbnail (right hand thumbnail in the window). If there is double click the left hand thumbnail to get back to editing the objects.
