illustrator mesh help

Can anyone tell me how to get rid of a mesh?
Drawing an object and putting a mesh in it then wanting to delete the mesh, I can delete by using white arrow and colour the object as a whole. I am unable then to put a normal gradient into the object as it still remembers that it has a mesh in it.
Freqently need to do this. Any help appreciated.

There's no built in 'remove mesh' feature. But you can do it quickly by using an offset path of 0px. This will create a new object the same shape as the original but without the mesh.

Brilliant - this solves the problem of not being able to put a gradient in the new shape. Thanks
