Illustrator newbie advice
richimo (7 points) | Fri, 2008-02-15 22:01OK, I'm messing around with Illustrator 10 on a friend's computer (I know, it's old, but before I start dropping cash on it, I wanted to give it a whirl.) I've traced an old logo I made a few years back, and I can see the outline, even painted the individual areas, but I can't see them on the artboard. I can see the miniature version of my logo over in the 'transparency' pallette, but can't for the life of me seem to find out how to view it on the main part. I am in CMYK / priview. Can't get ahold of my friend to ask him my newbish question, thought I'd toss it out here and see what comes of it. Thanks!

But r u SURE u re in 'Preview' sounds like youre in the Mask area of the transparency palette which even I get confused sometimes becasue I don't know when I am in mask mode and go along happily adding shapes and color etc.
Maybe this helps?

Well, I can see my trace now, but when I fill the areas with color, they're still not showing... Almost there... Resisting the temptation to just dash back to photoshop and do it there LOL.
OK, not sure exactly what the problem was... But, out of frustration, I just dragged the trace layer into a new document and it worked just fine. Thanks for the tip on the mask layer though, iried! I'll keep that in mind. So far I'm kind of digging Illustrator. Going to take some getting used to. At first glance, I think 'oh this is going to be just like Photoshop, piece of cake'... I couldn't have been more wrong!
