Im going for it...
Triple One (103 pencils) | Fri, 2007-07-13 23:15Ok, here is my logo. I still dont have my complete business license, so i have a little more time to play with this.
The problem I am having is I chose a bad business name. Actually, I love the name, but the meaning behind it is too personal to explain easily... I cant get away with "eh, its my lucky number" anymore...
and Im finding it difficult to express in a logo as well. (i should have thought this through a little more, i guess. maybe i just didnt expect to hear "what does that mean? all the time...)
Ive played around with mostly typography, much crazier ideas than you see here, and although they are fun, thats not what i want to express for my design business.
It looks great on my business card...
... for now.

Colours aren't great and there are way too many of them.
They'll look awful online and not much better in print to be honest.
The top one will print really badly, especially at small sizes and the bottom one you should scrap totally as there is far too much going on.
I'm not convinced about the font either.
Simplify!!!

I have to agree with plugz on this.
Not only is the name horrible (which is a whole other discussion), but the colors are drab and depressing. The logo itself is scatter-pants design. Too much going on in, too many elements and it's very awkward.

is a fine name, and I think it would be pretty easy to come up with a diverse selection of graphic interpretations of that name. You've shown one overly-complicated design and yet I see only one small hint of an underlying concept -- thats the 3 ones on the top sample ... but that concept pretty much sucks because it's so literal.
I suggest a bit more brainstorming and show us a page full of ideas. Be creative!
Why are you spelling out triple? Why not just put a triple three on there? Like 111 or 1^3 .. something. I don't know.
Why the hell would you complicate with words, when you have such a great number name with lots of expression oportunities...
Try three number 1s in different positions, colours, combinations... I'd definatelly go with a cross or triangle... you could even copy the recycling logo and change the arrows to ones, hehe.
Gluck!
The reason I spelled it out is so that Triple One stays Triple One and doesnt become One One One, or One Eleven or One hundred Eleven or Three Ones...
you get my point. but since that was mentioned, im headed in the direction of using the numbers as the focal point with Triple One below, or off to the side...
I will get it reposted SOON i HOPE

If you're starting out believing you've chosen a bad name, then choose a good one. The lack of inspiration is terrifyingly apparent here. This logo just screams "LET ME OUT OF THIS #$^%@-ING NAME!"
Remember the chat we were having a day or two ago about the importance of concept as phase one of the logo design process? Here's an example of where you've let yourself down in that phase. You deserve better.
Mara
1. Don't use the name if you think you've chosen badly.
Unless you can give me a good reason right now as to why you should keep it, and my good I don't mean because you're stuck with it or it's easy.
2. Would you honestly hire a designer with a logo like wither of the above?
I sure wouldn't. Don't try to be too clever, start simple, you can always re-brand as you go on, I haven't yet got to the stage after, 2 years of redesigns, where I'm happy with the logo I designed for myself as a designer and I won't promote myself with anything I don't have total confidence in.
3. Colour. Pick one and stick with it.

What´s the concept behind this design. Just using fonts?
I think that a logo should really speak for the product it´s selling (in this case, you) and from the logos above I don´t get anything.
Your logo should say something about your work, your style, your personality.
A logo is not just supposed to be aesthetically pleasing, it´s also supposed to be a piece of visual communication.
Don´t do things randomly just because you think its looks kinda interesting. There has to be some concept.
Sorry. Don´t mean to be harsh.
The name you've chosen has creative possibilities just dripping from it. Sound like it has some deep rooted personal meaning to you. Love it or Live it!
I suggest you print out 'triple 1' in a handful of fonts at about 72pt and start tracing letter forms. Really pay close attention how letters fit together and the positive and negative space. As a fun exercise try and fit "1" into different places in the wordmark 'triple'.
Here is a few creative examples.
Note: The Big Ten conference added Penn State back in the early 90s which made 11 teams.
Listen folks, we're designers so we can make ANY name look good, right?! Can anyone say they think 'FedEx Kinkos' is a great company name?!I Or UPS?! Their logos give their brands recognition, respect and repeat customers.
I say keep the name and choose stronger colors. The ones you've picked look more 'old folks home' than cutting edge design firm. Pick up the book Color Harmony and check out it's suggestions for the image you want to present.
Try your logo designs in black and white first so you can really see how the contrast is playing out before you dive into the whole color thing.
