InDesign conversion from Quark 4 - possible bug?

I have a large 450+ page book supplied by client that was originally in Quark 4. I converted it to InDesign CS3 with little trouble. However there are hundreds of linked images and about 90% read as "imagename.tif._" instead of "imagename.tif" (see attached screen shot) - For these images, InDesign does not recognize the actual image files as a match and I have to go in and manually re-link each image. What is that "._" at the end of the image name in the link??? Is it a bug created form the Quark conversion? Is it something European? (the original Quark files are from Spain and are all in Spanish - I am reinserting the text as translated into English). I will cost me extraordinary amounts of time to replace the images - I appreciate any help!
