Update InDesign to 5.0.2.
I've not seen that error, but updating to the 5.0.2 should be the first step.

What font manager do you use?

wow thanks everyone for answering. There had been some talk of problems with the Sing system in ID causing problems. I am always suspicious of fonts, so i stick with fontbook, and when there's an issue (as in this case) i enable a very minimal set of fonts i know are well-behaved. Good thought, thanks.
Oh my, PLEASE don't stick with FontBook! It's not made for serious design work. I'd go FontExplorer by Linotype if I were you. It's free and you can even have it manage your system fonts by leaving only the ones you need in library/fonts; saves system resources.
Even handles font conflicts and more.
