InDesign Embedded Images
Submitted by Triple One on Tue, 2007-12-18 19:14.
Im working on a book in which one section has over 100 photos and somehow, from the last time I opened it, all my links are suddenly embedded!
It will take hours to relink since the file names do not coincide with the pages. Does anyone know how this happens so that I may stop it from happening again?
Strange!
Strange indeed! A few questions: What version of ID? What OS X are you running? Are your files local or on a server?

Yeah its strange...
Im running ID CS3 and Leopard. This happened before I installed Leopard though, just finally got around to start relinking the files before print. It is a section inside a book file I created. I have one folder where all kinds of files and folders are inside, (this is a 346 page book). nothing has been moved, and if it had i would figure that the links would come up missing as opposed to embedded. Working prepress at a printshop, I have found that the quality is compromised and everything shifts to RGB instead of grayscale if its embedded like this.
Odd
Funny how just those pages got embedded and not the rest of the book. They weren't imported or placed from a pdf or another type of layout file, were they?
There is a place to report Leopard/CS3 bugs here on Adobe's website.
And more here, but not really related to your issue.
I'd recommend posting your question there and getting back to us here with an answer. I'm curious!

Unembed jpeg images
hello,
I have imbedded hundreds of small images into my file by cutting and pasting. Unfortunately, I found out that this is a bad idea a little late. How can I unembed then and get them linked instead. Thanks
One by one,

very unfortunate.
and i never heard back about that disaster, but i did make it out alive!
Dang, Very Unfortunate
Is there a place to inquire about that online from Adobe? Thanks for the responses by the way
Don't know how...
But it has happened to me before as well. Thankfully, only on a small job with only 20 or so logos. I'm not sure if it was deleting the unused colors from the color panel that force embedded them, but that's all I could narrow it down to. Sucks, cause the missing logos didn't even show up in the links list.

I've never seen this in CS.
I've never seen this in CS. Is it a CS2/3 problem? Intel Mac?

As far as I can recall
It happened with me using CS2 in Tiger and Leopard, and with CS3 in Leopard.
