InDesign Guru Help!

Hi,
I am working on a very complex book lay-out. I need to be able to replace WOL(write-on-line) for lines of different lengths throughout the design several chapters.
Is there a way I can insert lines next to text of different lengths?
Until now I have been doing manually but maybe there is a way to insert rules or lines easier.
Help :(

What you can do is anchor an object in your text.
1. Basically draw the line in the color and weight you want.
2. Then with the line selected use Apple Key + X to cut it.
3. Next with the cursor in your text, paste it with Apple Key + V.
4. To edit the line, use the arrow keys to move the line up and down relative to the base line. You can also use the select tool to change the length of the line. You can also change the color and stroke weight.
You can do this with images also.

Hope this helps,

You can also incorporate a paragraph rule into the style sheet for these lines of text. Create a new style or edit an existing one. Under "Paragraph style options" go to "paragraph rules." I turn on a "Rule below" and set the offset to 0. Apply the style to the write-on lines, then you can adjust the left indent for each line. It's a bit faster than using anchored rules, and it also travels with the text.

So there's at least two solutions. I'm sure there are more--it would be great if we could figure out a nested style that would work.

good luck!
