InDesign line break issue
arwerther (6 points) | Wed, 2009-01-21 15:54Has anyone experienced a problem such as this? When I was collecting source files for a vendor, I created a new PDF of the InDesign CS3 file. After comparing PDFs, I noticed several line breaks shifted since the last PDF was created and the file no longer matches our controlled document.
The only thing that had changed since the creation of the document and the original PDF was a hardware upgrade to 10.5.5 and the new laptop. The hardware specs are as follows:
Model Name: MacBook Pro
Model Identifier: MacBookPro4,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.6 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 6 MB
Memory: 4 GB
Bus Speed: 800 MHz
Boot ROM Version: MBP41.00C1.B03
SMC Version: 1.27f1
Sudden Motion Sensor:
State: Enabled
Does anyone know what could be causing this? I haven't checked if the H&Js settings are different but I would think it would keep any settings fromt he document when it was created.
Any help is appreciated.
Amy
A couple of things I would check are the preferences (you can set 'type' preferences globally in ID as far as I remember) and that the correct font is being used. As far as I know H&J settings are saved into the document itself so shouldn't change.
Have you got a test set-up you could compare this against to see what might be different?
Thanks Alex! This is my first posting and I appreciate the help! I couldn't find an H&Js general pref or setting in InDesign. I believe it's only available in the style sheets. I have created screen grabs of the "before" and "after" and my InDesign prefs for additional reference but there's no way for me to upload them.
Since the fonts were the same as when I opened the file, I know that shouldn't be an issue. The file was created with PS fonts and I reloaded them in order for them to be found. I do however have the OpenType versions in my font folder as well but no conflict came up in the type window.
Well, welcome to CreativeBits! :)
For Global H&Js you can just edit the H&J settings with no document open. As far as I know, this only then holds for new documents created after that point, but it may be worth checking (the same goes for other settings. If you edit them with no documents open they should hold for new documents).
Are you running a font management program? (FEX or suitcase?) It is unlikely to be the cause, but it may be worth checking that the OpenType version is switched off, just in case.
Does the re-flowed document have more hyphens, or is it just the occasional word knocked over?
