InDesign or Acrobat: Sort pages to Spread
el_reverend (134 pencils) | Tue, 2005-10-11 02:56Hey guys,
does anyone have a solution to re-sort single pages so they can be printed as spread? I have a document with several single 8.5x11 pages, but the client decided to print at 11x17 now! Is there a way to re-sort pages so my Cover is on the same spread as the last page, 1st with second to last, and so on?
I'd appreciate any help, since my deadline is tomorrow! Serves me right actually listening to my client against my better judgement.
Thanks.

Well I guess that nobody had a solution on this one, eh? Oh well, I did find one, so if you're stuck with the same dilemma, there is light on the horizon (or end of the tunnel - depending where you're from). While neither Acrobat nor InDesign CS have an option to sort spread pages for print (I and others - did not find a way), there is a plug-in from ALAP software (www.alap.com) called InBooklet (Mac & PC). While it is anyhting from perfect it does exactly what I needed: Impose single pages onto a double page spread. They do have more options, as well. BUT check your layout (content shift) and do not use the auto-created printer's marks! I had to carefully edit page shifts (all pages) to re-create the layout I needed.
Other than that, this little $99 (FREE to try for 15 days) application saved me a couple hours of work. Good. Client happy. Me getting paid.
There are quite a few ways of doing this all involving 3rd party imposition software. This is available for InDesign or Acrobat.
But you shouldn't need to worry about it. It will usually be done by your printer, giving him single pages should be fine as long as you give him instructions on how the final pagination should go.
