InDesign question - changing colums later on

Another InDesign question for the ID geniuses here.

If I have a document of some pages, and it's all set to 2 colums. Then after I've put in all the text, I change my mind and would like 3 colums, what is the best way to do it?

i know going to the master, changing to 3 colums, will change the layout, but all my text boxes stay the same at 2 colums. How can I make it change, without having to do it manually?
