Indestructible Apple...
plugz (1244 pencils) | Tue, 2008-07-22 21:51iPods were particularly fragile in the early days, the original nano debacle was a prime example.
Nowadays, the iPod touch and iPhone 3G have proven almost unbreakable.
I dropped my touch a ridiculous amount of times and so far in just a few weeks my iPhone has hit the deck at least 5 times with no ill effects, in addition, the plastic back of the iPhone 3G seems indestructible. Not a scratch on it so far despite quite a bit of abuse.
Apple's much maligned quality control has clearly improved on the hardware side. The software has taken a back seat it seems, but it's getting better all the time.
Apple without doubt are suffering growing pains as the scale up their operation, but overall I'm very impressed. All I need now is a new format MacBook to make me happy, fingers crossed for Q4.

its built compactly AND no moving parts!
Do you have a screen protector? I've been looking around for a good one for mine. . .(I'm using the plastic covering that came with the touch out of the box)

This is by far the most amazing protector on the market. It is INDESTRUCTIBLE. They offer a lifetime replacement guarantee if you even get a scratch on it.

that's what i use on my touch. don't even have a case for it, just use the invisible shield. and it's in my pocket all day every day.
Oh goody. I thought I was the only one dropping my phone or iPod. But, I ask you, are either one waterproof?

I highly doubt it with the camera and all the power and audio inputs. You can buy a waterproof case for your iphone (not particularly pretty!):

Looks like something out of James Bond or a Sci Fi movie!

And does it float? The reason I ask is because I just moved to an area that is geographically pretty water-heavy. Friends and family on islands, water access diners, etc. One person I know up here had his new business cell phone for an entire half day, answered an incoming call and then missed his case and plunk it went into the drink. Of course the easiest solution would be to only use these toys away from water, but we're all not always operating with our thinking caps locked into position.
BTW--where do they sell these James Bond-like cases? THX!

Did you post one, Nat? It isn't showing up.
You know me, I see/read anything related to James Bond and I'm curious. ;)

haha, ya, I didn't see it either.
that would be because this post is old :P
I've gotten my iPhone 3G wet once. didn't mess it up one bit. If it were drenched in water, that would probably be a different story. My iPhone was perfectly fine. No side effects, no overheating, nothing! Apple made it well. (I must say I think the plastic is kind of tacky, but that is mostly because I have a couple deep scratches in mine (I've only dropped it 3 times, but each time was really hard). If it were metal, there wouldn't be as many scratches.
