initial logo sketches for media company...your input please
Hadez (21 pencils) | Mon, 2007-03-26 18:30Hello all. I started making some initial concepts for a logo. The company is a startup that focuses on marketing and advertising; want to leave the word 'media' for future plans of expanding operations.
They expressed and interest in using the font serpentine, but i'm willing to try to persuade them if there is a better suggestion for a font that you think can portray a modern, sleek, 'dynamic' company so to say...
Let me know your thoughts and ideas, thanks :)

I am liking the third one best. I'm not fond of the font in the first two. (looks like the font for a prescription med) I much prefer the "crescendo" effect you have going on in the last two because of the label "Dynamis" referring to "Dynamics". Keep it up!

it conveys the dynamism in the name

but with a new set of fonts. none of the 3 have the font to carry it strongly enough. as for the comment that they look like fonts for a prescription med, that's not far off. lol
i love what you did to get the idea of a gradient without actually using one. super well done, just needs some minor tweaks and you'll have it!
keep us posted.

thanks for input so far guys. I personally like the 3rd as well, good to see that most people seem to agree. The font I had chosen was Magnesium, and then I modified it a bit by squishing the y axis. Any suggestions for a different font that might work to convey the original visual feeling for the company?

Have you tried handle gothic or something a little more modern as you rightly said. It depends what fonts you have and if your client is willing to buy a font so you can get it looking right. Maybe post some more font ideas here and we can advise as there are thousands to choose from. You could also try lower case too if you haven't already. Also have you tried the gradient effect going into the D, that could also work as you want the dynamis part to be more prominent than the media really, you might have to shorten it a bit though. Good start. Hope that helps.
I actually liked the way you handled "media" in the second example the most, but I agree with everyone else about the font for DYNAMIS. Go shopping!

Perhaps swap out the two elements.

None of these seem to exhibit that there was a real concept at their creation. For a marketing company, none of these seem very conceptual or focused. Which is really what a marketing company does, they focus and implement a concept.

They are a good start, but I'm concerned that the detail you have with the dots at the bottom will get lost at smaller sizes, such as on letterhead etc. In fact, worse than lost, they will get muddy and become a blob...nobody likes a blob!
I agree with previous comments re: fonts. I don't mind the fonts for media on the top two, but not so much the bottom one.
Like the poster above says, there does also seem to be no "higher concept" behind it. What does it all mean? What do they do? What kind of company are they? You don't have to be literal, but start with simple associations and go from there. You've got a bit of "dynamic movement" happening under the dynamis bit, which is good. But unfortunately, these days every second company logo says "forward movement" in similar ways. Hope this helps.
I'll re-work and re-post and perhaps get a bit closer to achieving a finalized logo.
