Best logos week 2

In this second part of best logos from Brands of the World post — as suggested in an earlier post — I will provide reasoning why these logos were picked from the hundreds uploaded.

1 degree logo
Wolda's Best of the World 2008 award winner: One degree logo by Landor.

In 2007, Rupert Murdoch laid down the challenge for News Limited and its associated global businesses to become carbon neutral by 2010. The challenge was to create a brand that would materially help drive employee, supplier and public action on climate change. One Degree has been developed on a simple premise: that if everyone were to change their behavior by just one degree, we can change the future of the planet. The logo combines both the number and the degree symbol, which together represent a person. In doing so, it neatly encapsulates the real impact that an individual can start to make in addressing climate change.

Super Kraft logo by Daniel A. Becker. This logo is an artwork for a japanese music label. Just because western language sounds very cool to japanese, a german name was chosen for the label. Apart from its german sound, the name should be also easy to pronounce. The word “Super” is often used in Japan and “Kraft” sounds very german because of the “kr” syllable. The logo let people think of an industrial product - a super glue from Germany. So it shows an elephant hanging head first on the logo name.

Sulloc tea logo by Duffy & Partners. One of South Korean’s largest and most respected companies, Amore Pacific is built around the vision to cultivate the health and beauty of people through the richness or Korea’s green tea and its many benefits. A new brand identity was created for the Sulloc Cha tea franchise as the business positions itself for global expansion. The logo combines the look of a traditional stamp used on paintings with organic typography and illustration. The result is a memorable and pleasant brand icon.

Bugaboo is selling strollers. The intersecting circles in the logo are inspired by the patterns wet wheels draw on pavements when turning the stroller around. The logo with this playful typography conveys the hip and happy brand attitude.

Osuna Nursery is a well-known and much-loved New Mexico business. The client wanted to update the brand to reflect the growth and maturity of the business, as well as the long-held beliefs in offering expert advice to customers. The accompanying tagline: “Let’s get growing.” The logo is composed of simple and recognizable shapes and feels fresh and dynamic.

Brooklyn International Film Festival logo by Deniz Marlali. The concept featured intersecting “o’s” which represent the global and independent film communities and evoke the reels used to project a film. Paired the “o’s” with “BRKLYN,” an abbreviation of “Brooklyn,” to create a fresh and modern icon.

Always is a female sanitary brand by Procter & Gamble. The colors communicate cleanliness and health. The typography reflect a soft and strong fabric, while the logo symbol reinforces the name.

Yachts of the World is a company selling custom yachts. The logo with it's ultra modern typography, elegant lines of the logo symbol and the stark black/silver color scheme all support the main idea: You can take on the world with your yacht.

MOPS, Mothers of Preschoolers support organization logo reflects radiating joy and love. You can't help but feel optimistic about anything they do.

The logo designed by Jon Berg for Pumpkin fish, an upscale design and multimedia studio, needed to be as fresh and individual as the company’s name. A geometrically simplified pumpkin and crossed fish were combined in a way that echoes the classic “Jolly Roger”. The mark was purposefully intended to be approachable—almost friendly, yet still feel at home in corporate applications. Its combination of simplicity and humor is disarming, and culminates in a logo that is as memorable as the studio’s brand.

Only some of these are really even decent. More are bad than good though... or at least not qualified, in my opinion, to be considered the "Best Logos."

The bugaboo logo bugs me. The "G" doesn't read as a "G" at all... especially because of the similar treatment to the "O," it just throws it off.

I hate to agree with Mr. Balmer on anything, but this time...

As soon as I saw one degree the thought that popped into my head was of a person hanging their weary head, bound by the hands behind their back (or I'm a raving psychopath!)

Bugaboo...I read BUOABA and quite seriously thought they were into body piercing.

The nursery one has been DONE TO DEATH....

Brooklynfest is cool. Don't like the light blue tho. I would have done it up in deep rich brown almost black and a yellowy-orange.

And don't even get me started on Always. Their marketing base, "HAVE A HAPPY PERIOD". P&G...what were you thinking? And their mark...reminds me of intertwining wedding rings rather than the shape of a pad. If a pad gets that twisted then perhaps you shouldn't go skydiving while Aunt Flo's visiting.

Yachts around the world...crimey...didn't we have that one in here over a year ago? Some guy running for his plane while yelling hold the boat?

MOPS. yep. Pretty much sums it up. Not. If I saw this I would think 'I LOVE MY MOP. Doesn't fly near as well as my broom, but it's still up there in the top 10.

Pumpkin fish. C'mon. Looks like dead fish with a bomb prepared to serve up sushi. Like the font tho.

Paddle faster, I hear banjos.

Thanks for the detailed review. :)

Yeah, the MOPS one is the weakest.

Did you notice the Always logo symbol is an infinity sign?

Oh man, I didn't even pick up on that and it's so obvious...

Probably every woman is glad it doesn't go on forever...probably every poor guy that lives with her too!

I never thought about this from this angle. Nice to have a female perspective. :)
