Perhaps the facial tics are his normal M/O, but he seems to be listening hard to what he is saying as it comes out, editing his delivery in real time. Trying too hard to be the role he thinks himself to be to relate to the audience and be accepted. Other presenters are more concerned with what the audience takes away. He probably won't want to see this in three years.
This dude is intelligent and wants to convey his message but gets in his own way a bit. Hope that wasn't too harsh, just an observation :-)
Well, put. I fully agree.
This guy is OK in my book, other than the fact that you Mac people seem to like him that is.

I am not Steve Ballmer pretending not to be me!
Have you ever been in one of those situations when you are so annoyed, and yet you can't take your eyes of whatever annoyes you? I think it takes more than just memorize the speech, to talk like that. I think we see a big part of who he actually is. The jokes, the sense of sarcasm, the confidence... He is smart enough to make that speech a red-blooded presentation. I found myself listening carefully to what he says. So I tried something. I have a friend who doesn't speak English very well, I made him watch the video, and he seemed very intrigued of something he can't understand. I think that guy's job is done. I think I'm his fan now :)

Annoying? Dude, he's THE Merlin Mann. He's great!
I've never found him annoying at all, and certainly not here. Someone must like him because he's given a number of talks on creativity and related subjects. There's another good one he did at Google last year.
That's why I posted his speech, but I still don't like his way of talking. But that's just superficial. What matters is what he says of course.
I dossociated myself from his tone and manners and concentrated only on what message he tried to sent. He threw a lot of small pieces of puzzle and you are lucky if you can put them together. I found his speach very interesting and intriguing.
We all create patterns in our life. Our daily rutine is most boring pattern...

Thanks for sharing this with us! I have not had the opportunity to see him live but have been following him around the internet for years! He really inspires me to think creatively and I thank him for helping me grow my plumbing los angeles business. Is he touring again in 2011?
