The beauty and the beast
Ivan | Fri, 2005-04-22 09:13Check out this extremely inspirational porti of the retoucher Glenn Feron. If you not only want to see girls, here is another interesting showcase.

I have to tell you, I'm completely sick of these perfect images. I want to see a portrait of a person exposing his character, not a plastic soulless shell. I'd rather talk to the girl on the left than on the right. Feels like she's a much more interesting person. How about you?
I think when you do retouching you need to make sure you don't destroy the personality of the subject. Don't misuderstand, I think Glenn does an amazing job and I know it's a very fine line. I also realize that there are standards in the industry one must follow, but still if you're doing such a retouching job, please try to keep as much as possible from the real person.
You can learn the basics of glamour retouching here, but be careful not to make such mistakes.

"Truth in advertising"
Marketing practices within the fashion and cosmetics industries demand such extreme "make-overs". It's the lie they need to tell in order to sell their products. And let's not get into the sham that's called "glamour photography", where the WORST lies are told!
Un-retouched can be pretty, as well.

Anyone know any other websites that offer thorough tutorials on doing this. I'm interested in learning.
Here's a good site for some before and after photo retouches.... not saying I agree with it, but would like to learn it.

Congrats to the popularity of CreativeBits. Glen's site is down due to "slashdotting". I guess we'll have to check it out when the thrill wears off.

Just duplicate the layer and filter>noise>median, adjust til you pleased.
Than on the original untouched layer create a layer mask and paint with
black to reveal smoothed out skin.
ya think this is done too much?

You will know fear...Then you will know pain.
Then you will use a Mac.
To be honest, I think she looks far more attractive in the original photo. I much prefer subtlety in retouching... This example just looks artificial. No need to smooth out every imperfection.
I tried overlaying the before and after in Photoshop, out of curiosity. With the after at about 35-45%, she looks gorgeous. Anything higher and she looks terrible... It looks more like a character from a video game than a real woman.
