intern copywriter

Hey, I’m new here. I’m interning at an ad/PR agency under a copywriter. My background is actually in public relations, but I was interested in advertising and wanted to give it a try. I consider myself a very creative person, but ad copy/slogans have proved difficult for me. I find it hard to be creative in an office-setting, under pressure. The unfortunate thing is there’s no room for me in creative, so my “office” space is in account services, not exactly the most creatively-stimulating.
I also have some background I graphic design, and find myself more inclined toward the visual aspects of ads when I get the work order, rather than the copy. This is odd to me because I’ve always been a creative writer.
Anyway, I guess I’m just looking for advice on stimulating creative ideas. I do word-association, use metaphors to think “outside the box” but I’m having trouble getting past clichés.

Practice makes perfect. If I do a bunch of production work one week (just setting crap up to print, putting PMS colors where the artist left them CMYK, etc) and then get a creative one thrown at me, I have to step back for a bit. It's hard when you're thrown into it all the sudden.

Most graphic designers/artists work in an office environment.

Would going home, opening up a magazine, and practicing be completely crazy?
