inThought Logo: Another Attempt
Submitted by Piotr on Tue, 2008-02-05 20:57.
I had posted a couple rough concepts a few weeks ago for my logo. I am a designer, an illustrator, i work with flash, photoshop, pencil, fractals, etc. So i have a wide range of things i play with but in terms of design, i generally try and keep it simple and clean.
I have been playing with these ideas in my head and finally put them into illustrator, and now, before i go too much further, i would like some feedback, opinions, thoughts, and suggestions that may come to mind. I promise i won't cry :)

Middle one for me
Is the best start, seems more unified. The "Works By Piotr Rauchfleisch" seems to fit quite snuggly in there and I like it. You're gonna have problems reading that on a business card though. Does the littl eman have to be black and grey? I'm still torn about his gradient too...this ones a good start. The bottom two look like traffic cops, and bottom right looks like hes actually in a traffic sign of sorts. In general I would also lose the full bodied figure, but thats just me.
I do like the full body, but
I do like the full body, but there are only a few places that it could work well. For a business card it's actually a nice size to have the full body on the left and the logo across, of course I'm not sure yet if that's what i will do. I do like the idea of using the full figure somewhere on the site but not really sure on that yet. I guess if i can't justify using it then i shouldn't be.
This is going to be primarily an online portfolio for the first while. inThough is so much easier to spell that Piotr Rauchfleisch (pronouced r-ow-fly-sh) :)
as for the gradient, i don't care for it and wanted to see if others thought the same.
Needs more development
Why don't you work with the blue? Being in thought reflects tranquility, and orange is a bit too strong. The font used for the blue logo is the one I like the most, but neither of the little men communicate the name well enough. Job well done on the typography tho!
OH!
I just had an idea with the first one....top left. Bash me as much as you want if you think its crazy but how about having the character "leaning" on the letter, kinda pushing them down a bit, and make it look like he's more "in thought"...almost daydreaming...do ya see?
Just be careful that you
Just be careful that you don't put too much strain on the letters. How would the letters react if you were to make the man lean on them? Would they lean with him?
No no
it would be ever so slightly, just to show the characters weight and make the letter lower a bit. No skewing or whatnot, just the letters lightly lower than the ones not being leaned on....I don't knwo why, but the question mark blocks from Super Mario Bros. comes to mind, but in reverse and as if Mario kept putting a downward force on the letters...kinda elastic....:S
Jesus...
I just read what I wrote! :S
ooohhh.. I do like the idea,
ooohhh.. I do like the idea, it's certainly worth a shot. As for how the characters would react.. i have NO idea, but that's pretty typical for me to have to deal with, so i'm sure I'll find a vast array of solutions which dont work, and one or two that do. Thats the fun part... right?
Same. Middle logo, but lose
Same. Middle logo, but lose the gradient. If you like the full body one, maybe use it on your website and flash it up.

I Agree With artfiend part deux and Christine
I really like the one on the top left - because of the "lean over the letters" effect. And you could definitely play with the letters a tiny bit below where the figure is "leaning" to make the lean look real.
I also agree with Christine regarding the colors. Orange is very strong and communicates energy and livliness...whereas your business name is "in thought", so blue would give a better portrayal of that title.
Furthermore, if the bent arm's hand is positioned a little more towards the chin of the person, I think the "deep in thought" idea will be even clearer to viewers.
Overall, I like the simplicity of it and what it communicates to the foreign eye.

Once again...
Once again THANK YOU EVERYONE for your comments. It's great to have so many responses so quickly. I might even get a few ideas together for tomorrow... but lets not get too confident...
thanks again!
Like the concept
Don't like any of the implementations.
The overall idea is there, it just needs refining.
Nice work though.
