Introducing mighty mouse

Meet the mouse that reinvented the wheel. The scroll wheel, that is. At $49, Mighty Mouse features the revolutionary Scroll Ball that lets you move anywhere inside a document, without lifting a finger. And with touch-sensitive technology concealed under the seamless top shell, you get the programability of a four-button mouse in a single-button design. Click, roll, squeeze and scroll. This mouse just aced the maze.

20 years late and about 4 buttons short! Why must Apple produce a mouse that one must "learn" how to use? It really should be easy. Use a scroll-wheel like the hundreds of other mice that have one and that millions of people already use comfortably, put two buttons on top and two smaller buttons on the side to act as forward and back buttons. That's it... is that really too dificult??? And what's with the wire? If you're going to sell a $50 mouse, the damn thing better be wireless. I can scroll sideways and have 3 buttons on my $15 Logitech that I got 5 years ago... Apple isn't giving me anything new.

Of course it's waaaay overpriced, but after 20 years, I'm used to paying for Apple's overpriced products – though most are worth the money. Unless they start bundling this mouse with every Mac, I would bet a paycheck or three that you won't be seeing a whole lot of these on desktops... other than at the Apple store.

I haven't used one, so I reserve the right to modify my statements, but in this case, I don't think I'll have to.

4 buttons too short? With that many buttons we'd need to grow extra fingers. I think Apple's finally hit the mark here. There are now 5 interfaces on the Mac mouse: one for each finger. The Mac mouse is now tailored to the body part it's meant to work with, lol. Not that it hasn't already been done.. but there's definitely something to be said for elegance. :-P

I'm glad to see Apple finally catching up here, but I don't see what all the fuss is about.

My MS mouse is shaped perfectly to fit in my hand, has 5 buttons, and was only $30.

This thing is $50, only has 4 buttons, looks like it should belong to a Compaq, and lacks any bit of ergonomics. The last Apple mice are horrible to use in my opinion simply because they are not shaped well to be used for any period of time.

I won't be using one of these unless it comes standard with my Intel PowerMac in a couple years lol

I went and ordered one on a whim. I used to have a wireless Intellmouse but using a wire doesn't annoy me as much as having to fiddle around with batteries. My wired Intellimouse was also beginning to show it's age.

Should hopefully get it late this week so will report back on first impressions.

I hope it's going to be a detailed review of the boobie mouse! Squeeze it, rub it. I'd love to know how that nipple feels like. ;)

I saw the AP newsfeed on it 10 minutes after it was posted, was on the phone to the local Apple store 5 minutes later only to be told they were already sold out, fired up Apple.com and ordered one. Got email that it was shipping same biz day...but now the morning after I get another email from Apple saying expected ship date on or before AUGUST 9th? Geeez didn't they realize everyone would want one?

I agree about being disappointed it wasn't Bluetooth, but I didn't think $49 was bad price - you gotta admit Apple's stuff is built well.

Mine says it shipped last night and to expect it in 1-2 business days but I I'll believe it when the little green post van pulls up.
