Is anyone using Thunderbird?
Viridian (66 pencils) | Wed, 2004-12-01 15:35Good morning from a very wet coast of Maine. :? (no snow yet)
Is anyone using Thunderbird as their email program? I have a client who uses a PC and HATES Outlook Express. She is considering trying Thunderbird, so I told her I would put the question out there and find out what people thought of it.
thanks!

As popular as Firefox is as a web browser, you would think that Thunderbird would be more popular as a companion piece of software, but it isn't. Which is a shame, because it's really quite good.
I think the biggest problem with Thunderbird is that it isn't part of a browser (except for Netscape, which has it built in). OSX has Mail which is actually quite good, and Entourage which is even better. Windows has Outlook more or less built-in, and then you have a myriad of other options out there, but you have to run out and find them. This isn't helping Thunderbird's popularity because it gets lost in the shuffle.
T-Birds built in HTML composer for sending true HTML email is a huge plus, if you need that feature. It's also very fast, and very customizable. It IS a great companion to Firefox. Talk your friend into switching to Firefox & Thunderbird and I'm sure she'll be quite happy.

I used Tbird back when I was on a PC, and I would definitely recommend it over Outlook, if for no reason other than to get your friend off of Outlook. Aside from which, the spam filter on Tbird is awesome, and it's got some nifty extensions (i.e. the RSS reader, and the pane that checks the weather for you.)
Thank you!
I passed along your information to her this afternoon and found out tonight that she had downloaded it, had it set up and was happy with it right away!
Whoops! that's me up above -- I forgot to log in...duh!
