ivan, did you do some software updates/changes on the site?
gwells (1511 points) | Tue, 2008-05-27 15:55i noticed things look slightly different around here, and that i had to log back in again.
one downside to whatever you did, the number of responses to critiques disappeared. there's no way to tell if there are new responses now (altho it was only a kind of memory thing originally).

Yep, and the css is a little wacky, it's running post titles together and the font is WAY too small. Maybe you should roll out all design changes at one time when they are complete? :)

Yes. Something's not quite jiving yet.
I also went to check out the "Best DVD Ripper for Mac" posted by hppay and was met with an ACCESS DENIED message... I ask myself...have I been bad? :)

Hi
I fixed this, and you should be able to see that post.
Let us know if it works or not for you.

I added the comment count back for you.

thanks, kbahey. is it possible to add in a "new" count, as well? similar to how the forums work.
not a complaint, but a comment. i noticed the type on the site is much smaller. probably ok for me, since i'm used to small type, but i suspect others could find it a bit troublesome.
I added the "new" feature. May not be 100% feature complete. Please report anything you find odd.

thanks, it looks great at first glance. i'll let you know if anything looks wonky.
one thing i did notice is that occasionally when i click on "new," it takes me to the wrong critique. clicking on the critique piece itself still takes me to the right place.
Should be fixed now. Let me know if you see it again, or anything else.

seems ok now. went through a bunch of older ones and they all opened the right critique. thanks!
Sorry about all the changes. We were rushing the upgrade a bit, so CSS isn't perfect. :) We should fix all small issues within a week or so. Thanks!
btw, all this upgrade gives us way for feature upgrades in the near future. Thanks for your kind patience.
Test away, Ivan. Looking forward to the changes you're implementing.
Cheers.

agreed, test away. not trying to complain, just give feedback.
No local development environment available? :)

Of course we have one. That is why people complained about email coming from the test server a while back.
But 6 eyes is not like hundreds when it comes to spotting differences.

If so, why are we seeing changes live?
Doesn't take a lot of eyes to see that the recent posts page is a bit jacked up at the moment. :)

Can you please be a bit more specific? How is the recent post page "jacked up"?

It just generally looks worse than before because the font style has changed (too small) and yet the columns are now too narrow both width wise and the leading between rows is too narrow as well.
It's all running together (running FF 2 on a PC running XP). Example here:

I wasn't trying to be argumentative before, I just felt like I wasn't being treated with respect; especially since we're being subjected to changes that really should be done on a dev box, not in a live environment.

Sorry if it felt that way. It's not the case at all! We truly appreciate your feedback. You're right, that we should've ironed out the mistakes before launching it. It was my mistake to overlook these things.
Thanks for the screenshoot. It looks totally different from what I see under FF or Safari. I hope to find the cause of the small font.
interesting how different nate's looks from mine here, even though we're both on ff2 on the pc (winxp).

the font is still very small for me, but the format looks a little different.
When I have minimum font size turned off that's when the problems start happening. It's like it's defaulting to the smallest font size possible for my screen.
No worries; we're getting the kinks worked out. I think I'm getting cranky in my older age... :) har har.

Yeah, strange that small font size. Mine even looks better than gwells', and I am using FireFox 3 beta 5.

The spacing is better now. I think it was a FF vs. IE thing with the css. The alternating row colors are back now too. Much better.

The old "star" with the 'new' in it to show new posts. Its hard to determine now what is a new post at a glance. Maybe make it bold? or another colour? :)
"Try not, Do! or do not, there is no try."

Are you referring to the recent posts page, or the Critique page?
For the recent posts page, there is a red "new" beside the title of the page. Isn't that what you wanted?

I believe ireid meant right in the actual thread itself. There used to be an orange starburst to the right of new posts and the area behind the wording was a richer, deeper black.

Oh, I got it now: the orangish star!
We had to change the theme engine with the new software, so it was almost a complete rewrite.
I believe Ivan is working on this one in the next few days.

small and the field for entering the post seems to be very big. . . not that I'm complaining! I like the white field box but things are a little screwy. . .
Maybe its because I'm using Firefox?
"Try not, Do! or do not, there is no try."

Will fix that too. Thanks!
Can you try to force refresh the page. Apple key + Refresh button in FF and see if things have improved?
Please let me know if you noticed any more errors please!

Fields are fine. Still liked the white fields. It was easier to read.
Thanks for putting back in the "new' starburst (helps a lot)
All in all a GREAT improvement!

Still no starburst pour moi, but I am using Safari. OUCH. Who threw that rock?

Try to force refresh your browser. You're still on the old CSS.
Didn't work. However, while searching for an answer I did come across this handy little link for shortcuts in Leopard.
