Of the two, the one on the right. However, I would add an ascender to the bottom of the "j" as it could be misread as the letter "i".

i presume that's supposed to look like a CD? if so, i think it's a bit narrowly focused for JBL. if not, i'm not sure what it's supposed to be and i don't know if it's successful.
I actually wanted the b to resemble a subwoofer.
And I used the bold letters to try to convey loudness.

A sub has a much larger dustcap with relation to the speaker cone.

i'm not getting subwoofer or loudness from the 'b'.
i think that for bold to stand out and come across as loud, you need to have some contrast for it to be bold from. making everything bold removes the contrast, thus the loudness. but with just three characters, i don't think you can make this work.
This logo is definitely too literal. JBL kept the speaker graphic more of an insinuation.

If you are going to take a stab at making a logo better, make sure you do your research:
What you've shown here are two variations on the same logo/theme. Do you have other explorations to show?
Remember that your logo has to fit on speakers, amps, advertisements, tshirts, websites...
I don't think you've made a better logo here just yet.

You've done a good job at contemporizing an aged logo, immediately I see jbl, a speaker, and a person in motion. Don't get stuck in minutia. Can these be improved upon, of course, anything can-- I would stick with these and go on to some new designs
I like the one on the right--
