jHouse | Business Cards v1
Submitted by jHouse on Fri, 2008-10-17 13:18.

Yo,
These cards are my first attempt. Do you think the back has all the right things highlighted in the right order?
The gloss indicates I want a UV varnish applied to the main logo.

Nice...
is the gradient and glare part of the design or just for presentation?

???
The grad is part of the design (although I may remove it because the paper will be nice and thick) and as said, the "glare" represents the UV finish.
Thanks

Space out your name and the
Space out your name and the line with the contact information a bit more. Looks nice, but I would proof it without the gloss and on a plain white background.
Cool thanks. What do you

that's really funny
Actually, I don't think anyone has a number that starts with 555, and that's why they use those in the movies. In the US, we have a different sequence of numbers and spacing. something like 123-456-7890. That's why I saw yours and was like "what?!?" Like I said, blonde moment...
area code 555-1212
is the Directory info for each are codes LOL

in person >>> emails. i know
in person >>> emails. i know we now have 1+ generation that's purely electronic in so many ways, but really, nothing beats the personal touch. network, meet some art directors/studio owners, then ask them for "information interviews." that way they can look over your portfolio with you and give you some advice on it. plus, the benefit to you (beyond the advise) is that they now have your contact info and a good idea of what you can do. so if they need help in the future, they can call you. if someone else asks them for recommendations of someone else that can help them, they can recommend you. you'd be surprised at how incestuous like that this industry can be.
Dig the card man, it's
Dig the card man, it's really sweet. I can't think of a way to improvement, it's simple and sweet and it gets the point across. Great work. (I, for one, like the bird...and the gloss.)
If you send out only 30 emails you are lucky to get even 1 reply. Response rate for cold emails is usually like 1 in 100.
You got to stick to it. Calling or going in person usually trumps an email too, but it's still a numbers game. 30 is not nearly enough! Dedicate several hours to sitting down and dialing (or emailing or whatever) every day. You just gotta grind it man.
Talk to enough people, and you WILL find work (unless you like, totally suck at sales, like totally)
Freelanceswitch.com had articles on cold calling and warm calling recently that you might want to check out.
