I hate critiquing anyone else's website due to the fact that I've yet to develop my own, but here goes...
I wasn't in LOVE with your other white one, and upon first glance at this one I thought it appeared like a movie trailer for Black Christmas.
Palette wise, go with what Nato advised. Steer away from the aqua unless it REALLY means something to you. From what I've gleaned intranettily is that you're a red-black-white-pewter kind of guy...
If I was doing this layout I would base your logo as top of the hierarchy food chain and enlarge it, square it off center left, offset by a vertical strip of black with your portfolio samples/teasers running the length of it--your interested audience can simply keep scrolling down.
Lose the foliage, drop in kegs/gears or some other powerful graphic that you feel compares to the image you wish to portray. Perhaps a silver watermark of your unique "o" that almost could morph into THE power symbol...

I see the "too dark" comment a lot around here. Kind of ironic, Creative Bits itself seems too dark to me :P Personally I think dark is ok, if it's the look you're after.
Personally I think this site is a lot more appealing and more unique than the other. If I were looking for a designer, I would actually go for the darker sites over the lighter sites.
Of course, it all depends on what type of client you are after as well.
CB used to have a light gray/white style that I much preferred over this current "Dark" style. Right now we don't have a choice since it's the only option.

You've set this design up
You've set this design up for failure. By itself, it's too dark. Compared to the first it's too dark. We all liked the first design, why change it?
If you want to use black, use that blue color you had before; aqua just doesn't seem like YOU after all the other work you've shown.
In general, you need to pick one element that's the most important and work down from that in size/importance. Hierarchy, my brutha. :)
