Top one. Truly conveys a coffee mug. The only thing I might add would be some steam coming up from the mug.

"Art -- the one achievement of Man which has made the long trip up from all fours seem well advised." - James Thurber
it's a good concept and a good start, but it's missing something. maybe 3dogmama's right and the steam will do it. but it needs something.
The weight of the J should be the same as the 'oes'...
Other than that, I think you might be on to something. I'd like to see how the steam works as well.
Make each letter the same weight. I like the steam idea. Might be a cliché, but this logo is unique enough that you could get away with it. I really like your work on this. It's a clever idea.

Top one looks like Pe's. Not the kind of reference you want for a coffee shop. :)
A coffee cup is very cliche. Any other ideas hiding on your drawing board?

Dirt and Rust
I agree, consider a little space between de J and the O, however I like the coffee cup, try to add abstract smoke over the J, like a tall S. Good starting
