Joost software for Mac Intel lonly?
mara06 (2548 pencils) | Sat, 2007-05-19 16:45Got the invite, joined up, downloaded the software, but got an error message when I launched it on my G5 PowerMac. Says it's for Intel only. *sigh* Is that the end of my experience with Joost? Is there a PowerMac version or is this really Intel dependent?

Joost for PPC is "in the works." We'll see. Meanwhile, someone in the Joost forum mentioned Vividas for those of us presently limited to PowerMacs. Any comments from the CB hive mind on that? http://www.vividas.com/

Not lest because the video decoding on G4 processors particularly is significantly less efficient. As it's a flagship video application I can see why they're showcasing it on the latest hardware first.
Never heard of Vividas, had a brief look at the site and it looks interesting but didn't see anything about downloads. I gave up after not being able to find out much about it.

Yeah, looks to me like okay for corporate stuff, but not the "invite the world to a party" kind of thing Joost is. Damn. Oh well. Maybe I can talk my husband into ditching his ancient PC for the latest Mac. He's only holding on to the C because it lets him use Sound Forge. Apparently Mac has nothing to equal SF for what he needs to do. (He's a composer, so that part of what he uses it for, to run out the charts for each instrument, but he also transcribes near-mint 78 rpms and LPs for full access to all the music on them, not just the narrow slice most CD companies settle for.) Anybody know if Sound Forge could work on an Intel Mac?

That way he can have the best of both worlds.
