JTD Business Card

JoshuaTree's picture

OK, here's a new version of the business card. I simplified it a good deal but I'm still not really satified. I feel like there's something wrong but I can't quite put my finger on it. Any suggestions? As always, click to view the full size image.

I'm not too crazy about the

I'm not too crazy about the fonts. The one used for your name seems like it's stretched vertically. It looks a lot better in the "view original" but the view original isn't the actual size it would be printed, so I can't say for sure.

The font your name is in just really bugs me though for some reason.

Not too crazy about it

Not too crazy about it either. Don't use that reflective shadow on your name for starters. Feel free to remove that big grey orb holder - whatever it is found on the back of the card.

i've got to agree... i like

i've got to agree... i like the design itself, but not necessarily for a business card... i think that at the size it would be, it might be hard to read...

on the other hand, if you had a wad of cash to drop on this and had it die cut out of aluminum or something, that would make on helluva statement...

it really all depends on how you want your design work to be portrayed... if you prefer your clients and potentials to view you as very "new media" (don't know any other way to put it), then it actually looks fine... its all about what impact you're looking to make, and on who...

still too busy.

Hey Josh,

You really seem to have a handle on the effects, but you need to make it much, much more simple. I know people keep telling you that and I can see you're listening, this version is much better. If I were you I would completely do away with all the metal, glass and the whole teckno feel. It's way too complicated.

My suggestion is listen to all the very helpful people here who know what they're talking about and go check out ever freelance designer's blog/portfolio that you can find. Look at their logos. See what's "in"... See who gets the bids... See who other designers listen to... See who has big names (and numbers) in their portfolio's... Look for what they have in common identity-wise. Learn from them. DON'T copy them (or anyone else, ever.) ;c)

Simplify.

You've got to have some sort

You've got to have some sort of direction with this whole theme...why are you going for the metallic spacey theme? How does this convey your designs or your business as a whole?

The font really has to go, the default kerning is horrible and it's a style/font that just screams 'FREE DOWNLOAD!' For the rest of the info you've got Caps and Small Caps, this is a bad way to convey information, the letterforms start blending together because we don't have the natural ascenders and descenders to recognize and read. Essentially it's harder to read. Keep going with this. Remember: Less is More, Have a Purpose and SKETCH SKETCH SKETCH before you touch the computer!
