Lacie Macintosh HELP PLEASE!!!
jhmcreative (35 points) | Sat, 2006-02-11 22:09If anyone knows of a program that will enable me to simply drag stuff from Titanium G4 lapytop (running 10.4.4) on to my Lacie 160gig Firewire drive - that would be great!
HERE IS MY PROBLEM:
Apparently - you cannot copy files onto the external drive that have certain characters in the name such as "(), * and ."....it's crazy that this is not mentioned anywhere before I purchased it.
My only option as of now (and what they recommend on their site) is to change the title names in all thousands of my files....this is clearly not a viable nor practical solution.
I have to believe there is freeware program or something out there that can help me with this....
CAN YOU HELP?
THANKS!

I have the exact same drive hooked up to a Mac running 10.4.3 and I picked a few random files to put those characters into. Seem to have copied across with no problem. Maybe I'm missing something or your drive is formatted in a slighty different manner.

Hey Josh,
I had the same issue with my 120 gig FD Drive and if memory serves me it's was formatted for a PC by defualt. You would need to reformat it to the Mac format.
I had the same problem with my FD external HD. You can do this in disk utilities. it will erase qanything on the drive so make there is nothing you need on it.
Hope this helps,

I am going to my disk utilities and see if that's the problem - I think I read that somewhere and I think that's the problem.....I will get back to you.
Thanks again.
Josh
Sorry to bother you again Mike - how exactly do I reformat once in DU?
You click on it, and in the erase tab, select a new format and click erase. Probably the problem is that the drive is in a FAT format, as Vectormike said. PC's are really finicky about file names, and you are not allowed to use certain names in Windows.
Hey Josh,
Select the drive you want to re-format. you'll want to clcik the erase tab and select Mac OS extended for format. That should get rid of all of the naming issues your having.
Hope this helps,
