Lemon Print
captonjohn (347 pencils) | Thu, 2009-11-19 09:17Problem: To create a brand identity for an upcoming printing firm.
Solution: As per brief, client wanted a professional, unique, modern and vibrant logo. After enough research and brainstorming I provided this solution. Client wanted lemon symbol in logo then we developed this style to give it modern look and avoiding cliche.

Unique?

Modern?
The type looks like a Trebuchet.. and making the word print in a smaller type makes it also not very modern, We did that 7 years ago..
I disagree with Bureauplus. You're critique isn't that relevant. With a name like Lemon Print you're almost bound to use a lemon and you're always going to have a sort of simulairity to other 'lemon' logo's. It's not identical but with logo's you're very likely to find simulair logo's when searching for them, aspecially with a lemon logo. I mean, he could make another lemon variation but I'm pretty sure he'll find another simulair logo.
Aaanyway.... Your shape isn't striking enought. Without the name I wouldn't really recognize a lemonshape. It's like a a mirrored boob. Maybe try a full line and not an artistic paint stroke around the lemon, it's a bit of contrast to the rest.
And maybe adding some colour to the name.

It's probably a name created just for this logo. Like Fuzzy Balls, Shaky Cat or some other made up name.

@ Jack: Doh, nu kan ik niet meer gewoon naar die meloenen eeeuh citroen kijken..
I just qouted his brief, client wanted a professional, unique(?), modern (?)and vibrant logo....and avoiding cliche.
A: unique
B: modern
C: vibrant
D: avoiding cliche
You have non of the above, thats all I wanted to say.. And the part that this has all been done.
Why don't you make the lemon in CMYK bars? ok, also cliche.. but it does make it more printer like.
That has to be the most generic, shittiest briefs I've ever read. Really? they didn't want an amateurish, outdated, stale logo? What a challenge!
And is CGOMB the new CMYK?

You can avoid cliche using a vibrant yellow/green overall spot without using the lemon shape. Or a lemon squeezer.
But as it is, is good to go, it won't win any contest, that's all. But it's not a bad logo.
ORANGE don't use any fruit shape
yes I'm brazilian xD
In the United States, a "lemon" is a term we use for a piece of equipment that doesn't work, like a car that keeps breaking down even though new. Of course, "lemon" also means the fruit, but I just thought I would mention that.
I agree that the lemon shape is too generic to be useful. Why not use a cross-section (slice) of a lemon, and have each of the triangular sections be a color, going right through the whole spectrum?
Mara
Mara06, I rarely disagree with you but I don't think a lemon shape is too generic to be usefull, it just has to be designed very good though, in a way which is unique. I think that is possible.

THIS lemon shape is too generic. Take away the logotype with the word "lemon" in it and what do you have? It could even be Stewie's head (ref. "Family Guy.") The mark should ideally stand on it own.
Mara
Mara...you made me spit my coffee out! Stewie's head...too funny!
