Leopard vs. InDesign: Crashes on Open, Import, Export, Save and Print

One of the more frustrating Leopard-vs-InDesign issues we're seeing at clients is a bug that causes frequent crashing when using InDesign CS3's Open, Place, Import, Export, or Save dialog boxes. Designers may also experience these particular symptoms while re-linking graphics as well as printing files.

Until Adobe or Apple fixes this issue, we have an odd work-around culled from various online forums that has helped improve stability at several of our clients:

Along with that solution

You can also use the Adobe Save/Place/Open dialog box if you have VersionCue turned on in the InDesign preferences. You don't actually have to have VersionCue turned on, or use it at all, just click the box in the ID prefs. Then in the first open/save/place dialog box, check the "use Adobe dialog" box option (I forgot what it's really called.)

Both solutions are a pain in the ass. Adobe & Apple need to pull their collective heads outta their asses and get it fixed.

Agreed! It's too bad Apple's dragging its feet on this one. I find they are behaving more and more like Microsoft every day with regard to putting out system updates way before they've tested all the bugs.

I've been reading others'

I've been reading others' comments about InDesign and Leopard, but have never encountered these problems. The ONLY time InDesign crashes on my system is when I also have Quark 7 running.

Make money not war

Have returned from some investigative surfing and have discovered that there are others out there that also have no issues with CS3 and Leopard.

Years ago, I used to load every bell, whistle and latest gizmo out there. Needless to say, fights broke out amongst all of the various applications and crashes were an everyday occurrence. I've since learned from this experience and now only run the bare minimum of apps. required. Maybe the issues some people are having with this Apple-Adobe conundrum are linked to other parties' software?

I know that Apple and Adobe

I know that Apple and Adobe have strained relations of late (Apple's video and photo editing products are an indication that it is encroaching on Adobe's space/territory) and thus Apple just doesn't seem as quick to update their software with regard to Adobe's when issues come up.

It's too bad that the end user is the one who suffers in this 'cold war' of sorts.

Unfortunately, your cold war

Unfortunately, your cold war analogy is pretty much bang on. We're all a bunch of hapless pawns held hostage when it comes to the business stratagems of these two giants. I think Apple and Adobe have to revisit what their base purpose(s) is: us, and work in conjunction to resolve obvious known issues.

Too true, that quote. I am

Too true, that quote. I am on macosx.com quite a bit and many (most!) of the issues have to do with Leopard/Adobe Software incompatibilities issues.

Good site. Have, and do

Good site. Have, and do visit it. I'll have to check in to see if there's ever been a thread posted about issues with InDesign's copy and paste command. Am working this evening on a french document, which involves a lot of these actions. I'm not crashing, but what's appearing in the text box is not what I've copied.

Guess I spoke too soon today in regards to not having any problems with InDesign and Leopard. The Gotchya Gremlins were watching and got me. :(

EDIT: Nope. Still in the gremlins' good books (double cross fingers); figured out the problem. Cheers.

You're probably already aware of this site: http://www.versiontracker.com/macosx/
I find it a great form of resource on the net. mbennett helped me out with a problem awhile back and I've been linked onto this site ever since.
