This is an advert concept for an inaugral rural festival/ball called Livestock 2006. The target market is reasonably conservative rural people, and the brief was to 'push their buttons' a bit. Overall it just seems too heavy in composition to me. Any suggestions? Cheers.

Okay, it took me almost a full minute of staring at the top picture to figure out that it was a guy in a puddle. At first I though I was looking at a smeared picture of the crowd. Ahh!! And man does that hurt the eyes. I'm really not sure if that's what you're going for here. Also, would "reasonably conservative rural people" have been at Woodstock 6 years ago? I have a few friends who have been to all the (recent) Woodstock festivals, and while they've settled down some, they're still not the types to show up at a sit down, black tie style event that Livestock looks to be. I know this is trying to as you say "push their buttons" but you still want them to know which buttons are being pushed and why. I'm not sure what would be better in the top pic, maybe Cow Tipping 1996, or something equally goofy. Sorry, but this, to me, just doesn't work.

The images area juxtaposition of two rural festivals. Most, if not all of the target market wouldn't have been to Woodstock, and in fact would never have wanted to. They prefer the sit-down black tie (at which they can get just as smashed, but in more slaubrious surroundings). I'm comfortable with the concept, as is the client. It's more the design that's the headache (maybe literally! you're right in that the blur of the image is too much) I definitely wanted to create a sickly wasted-style effect, but not to the distraction of everything else. Cheers for the comments.
Okay, I understand the concept better now, maybe a different pic then, more like the 94 album cover with all the people covered in mud. Just a thought.

Dude, lose that Bauhaus-y font at the bottom it looks a little dated. Try increasing the white border thickness somewhat. This should make the pics seem less heavy.
